Crazy about Crocosmia

If some like it hot, then Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ is the perfect perennial for the summer garden! Commonly referred to as Montbretia, this clump forming member of the iris family is hardy in zone 6-9 (we are considered zone 7). When you talk about ‘Lucifer,’ it’s all about its arching spikes of showy brilliant red flowers on wiry stems. Attractive medium green, sword-like pleated leaves rise to heights of 2-3’ making it a great addition to mixed perennial borders.

Easy to grow, Lucifer’ does well in full sun to part shade. Soil should be moist yet well-drained. The addition of organic matter (compost or composted manure) prior to planting is helpful. Simple spring care – cut back before new growth resumes; divide if/when needed.
