Plant a Pizza Garden!

Everyone loves pizza… ok, just about everyone! And you can grow most of the ingredients for pizza in the garden or in pots. Just buy the cheese and dough and you’re ‘good to go’.

Summer is a great time to get the kids involved in the garden, so let them get their hands ‘dirty’. Chances are, if they grow it, they will eat it, or at least try it.

Grow happy plants:

• Provide at least 6-8 hours of sunshine a day
• Keep soil moist, never dry or saturated
• Stake tomatoes at the time of or soon after planting
• Fertilize according to package directions

Recipe ingredients:

Tomatoes – Roma or San Marzano
Basil – Genovese
Parsley – Flat
Oregano – Greek or Italian
Garlic
Rosemary

Toppings

Get creative with different varieties of peppers, arugula, spinach.  Create your own ‘signature’ recipe or search the internet for options.  When you’re ready to harvest, plan a ‘pizza night’ and celebrate!
